How to Add a Chatbot to Your Website in 10 Minutes

A step-by-step guide — no coding required.

What you need before you start

A list of the questions customers ask, and the pages or PDFs that answer them. Without that, any chatbot will sound generic.

Step 1 — collect your content

Gather your FAQ, shipping and returns policy, product pages and any price list. Most teams already have this; it is just scattered.

Step 2 — index it

In DeskClerk AI you paste a URL or upload files. The assistant reads the text and builds chunks it can search. Scanned images are not supported — the text has to be selectable.

Step 3 — test the real questions

Ask the ten questions you get most. Check the answer and the source under it. If something is wrong, fix the document, not the chatbot.

Step 4 — embed one script tag

Paste the snippet before your closing body tag, or use a code block in your site builder. Load it with defer so it does not block the page.

Step 5 — decide when a human takes over

Set a handoff path to email, phone or WhatsApp. Require contact details before handoff so you never get a dead-end conversation.

What a good first answer looks like

A good answer is short, quotes your own page and ends with the next step: a link, a form or a person. If the visitor has to ask a second question to act, the answer is not finished.

Three mistakes to avoid

Uploading scanned PDFs with no selectable text, answering from memory instead of the page, and leaving no way to reach a person. Each one turns a helpful assistant into a dead end.

How to measure whether it works

Watch three numbers: the questions people ask most, the questions the assistant could not answer, and how many conversations produced contact details. Those three tell you what to fix next.

What to do when it cannot answer

Add the missing page, or write the answer directly in the workspace. The question is already recorded as a gap, in the visitor's own words.

The groundwork

Content first, tool second

The assistant can only answer from what you give it. Before choosing any tool, gather the pages and documents that already answer your customers.
